Things you need to know about event filming

As technology develops, the demand for event photography is increasingly demanding on product quality. If your product is not good, you can be fired at any time. Here are 6 things you should always remember before and while filming the event.

1. Create a story

An event should be conveyed as a story with an introduction, body, and conclusion. The cinematographer's job is to help the client navigate the story and follow it.

2. Having more than one videographer

For live events we will usually choose professionals who have participated in many successful events. Having more than one videographer provides greater image assurance and ensures that the camera doesn't miss a moment.

3. You can't write a script, but you can plan

Video makers should engage early and get as much information about the event as possible. They should not only know what to film, but also why they have to shoot. This information will allow cinematographers to understand the significance of each shot's role in the overall set of goals, and can flexibly change it if something goes wrong, or a new opportunity emerges.

4. Set goals

The big goal should be the story you want to convey. Plus, each captured moment must have its own objective. Count on professional videographers to help you capture every detail of your event while leaving them with the creative freedom to “tell” the story of the event.

For example:

Event: MC on stage announces the winner of the contest

Objective: Film what the MC said; Show the crowd eagerly awaiting the results

Suggested Shot: Shot MC close-up; MC's POV and someone's POV in the crowd.

5. Always have a backup

Since it's impossible to be sure if a shot will be successful or if there's a chance of reshoots, it's a good idea to have 2 cameras in every event. Not only will this give you peace of mind, but it can also result in two great shots, contributing to easier editing and a more perfect product.

Having shots from different angles, close-up and far away, will make the final product more creative and beautiful.

6. Sound Guarantee

Always take priority and don't save money on sound. Poor sound can cause you to abandon the scene you just shot, even if you are very satisfied.

Filming a video is a labor-intensive job, a cameraman as well as more money, but at the same time the effects it brings are much more vivid and natural.
